Creative Ways to Personalize Handmade Gifts for Loved Ones

Personal doesn't mean fancy. To show what I mean, here's the same gift made two ways. On the left, what most of us do in a hurry. On the right, the version that ends up on the fridge for years.
A card for Grandma
Before: Store-bought card; Signed "Love, Mia"; Opened, read, recycled
After: "All About My Grandma" fill-in card; "Grandma's house smells like cinnamon and dogs"; Framed in the hallway
A gift for Uncle Ben
Before: A gift card in an envelope; Fine, but forgettable
After: A coupon book: "A rematch of any game"; Redeemed at every family dinner
A present for a best friend
Before: Wrapped in plain paper; No name, no note
After: Paper covered in their doodles; A tag that says "You're my best friend because..."
The pattern
- Their words beat perfect words. Let the spelling stay wobbly.
- Their hands beat store-bought decorations. A handprint takes 2 minutes.
- A date on the back turns any craft into a keepsake.
